Holden & Phoebe
It is clear that Holden and Phoebe have a very close relationship. She seems to be the only person that Holden doesn't consider to be phony. Phoebe is the only person that understands Holden. Even though Phoebe is six years younger than Holden, she seems to be more mature than him. I think that Phoebe is the only one that can free Holden of the world that he is living in. She is the only one that can make him realize that the bitterness that he has against other people is really a bitterness that he has towards himself.

I totally agree with that! Holden seems to call ever single person he meets a phony, but Phoebe is the exception to this rule. She does seem to be much more mature than Holden and seems to be very intelligent for a ten year old. Holden seems to have crazy ideas about getting away from the rest of the world and Phoebe seems to be the only one that can pull him back and make him realize that these ideas are ridiculous. I also agree that she makes him realize that he really isn't annoyed with everyone else, but is annoyed with himself.
